Chapter 49
TOPIC: CHAPTER 49
TEXT: GENESIS 49:1-28
PREACHER: PASTOR J.T. KALEJAIYE
Life is full
of pleasant and unpleasant chapters. For example, there is a chapter (time) of
weeping/sorrow and there is a chapter of Joy- Psalm 30:5. There is a chapter of
stagnation and there is a time of promotion, there is a time of passing through
and there is a time of breakthrough.
Chapter 49
is an unusual chapter. It is a chapter with many definitions; it is a chapter
of necessity, in other words, it is a must-read chapter. Chapter 49 is a
chapter of rewards, it is a chapter of commendation
and condemnation, it is a
chapter of reaping, and it is also a chapter of blessings and curses.
According to
the above Bible text. On one faithful day, Jacob sent for all his sons and they
were gathered for an unusual family meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to
receive the rewards for their various deeds.
1.
Reuben who was the first born was the first
recipient – Gen. 49:4. Reuben committed an abomination which he thought no one
knew about. He did it in secret but his sins found him out – Numbers 32:23b.
Reuben did nothing to correct his past and his past worked against him –
Proverbs 22:8.
2.
Simeon and Levi received their rewards. In
anger, they slew a man. Jacob said they shall be divided and scattered in
Israel.
3.
Judah received his own reward. His father’s
children shall bow down before him.
4.
Joseph received overflowing rewards. He received
the blessings of heaven above, the blessing of the deep that lieth under; the
blessings of the breasts and of the womb and prevailed blessings were
pronounced upon his head.
