Pastor J.T. Kalejaiye - Respect The Elders

Topic: Respect The Elders
Text: Ex 20:12
Preacher: Pastor J.T. Kalejaiye

The Bible repeatedly warms us to honor the elders. It is a task that must be done. Failure to honor them can lead to death.

We have different kinds of fathers; We have God the Father, Fathers, Area Fathers and Spiritual Fathers.

Freedom is good but watch what you say to the elders. Wise men speak because they have something to say but fools speak because they have to say something.

We must honor the Elders. It is a command - Ex 20:12.

As a youth do you want to live long? If yes, then honor your father and your mother. It is a command -Ephesians 6:2-3.

Honor your father and mother so it can be well with you and you will live long - 1 Timothy 5:17.

Honor your spiritual father; the ones that are genuine - Deuteronomy 5:16

Honor your fathers and honor your mothers - 1 Samuel 2:30b.

We must obey the Elders - Ephesians 6:12. Obedience is better than sacrifice - Hebrew 13:17a, Colossians 3:20.

Respect Elders - Hebrew 12:9. Despite King Solomon's position, he still respected his mother - 1 Kings 2:19. A whole King when he saw his mother he bowed his head.

We must hearken to our Elders - Proverbs 23:22.

We must submit to the Elders - 1 Peter 5:5

Certain things we must not do to the Elders;

So many youths these days curse anyone, including the elders.

1. Touch not my anointing -1 Samuel 24:5-6. David had the opportunity to kill king Saul but he never did - Psalms 105:15. Saul was an anointed of God.

2. Don’t curse the Elders - Proverbs 20:20. One's lamp can be put off if one curse an elder - Matt 15:4, He that curses his father or mother will surely be put to death - Ex 21:17.

3.  Don’t mock the Elders - Proverbs 30:17. Some little children curse and mock Elisha and he cursed them - 2 Kings 2:23.

4. Don’t forsake the words of Elders - Proverbs 1:8. Hearken unto your father and mother.

5. Don’t despise or look down on an Elder - Proverbs 23:22.

6. Don’t dishonor Elders - Deuteronomy 27:16.

I pray for you that God will give you the resources to be able to take care of your Parents and your Elderly ones. God will bless all our parents and elders in Jesus Name.

Accept Jesus Christ today as your Lord and Savior.
