Arresting The Arresters

TOPIC: ARRESTING THE ARESTERS

TEXT: 2 KINGS 1:9-13

PREACHER: PASTOR J.T. KALEJAIYE

The word ARREST means to apprehend, to catch or to take into custody. The ARRESTERS can be

  1. Household Enemies: These are enemies within.
  2. External enemies
  3. They can be unfriendly friends: They are enemies who pretend to be friendly.
  4. The arresters can be forces that are assigned to stagnate or monitor one’s progress.
  5. Death is also an arrester.

The above passage reveals hoe the “God of Man” assisted the man of God to arrest his arresters. Three groups of arresters were sent to arrest Elijah. Elijah took immediate action; brethren, you must take certain actions before you see God in action and those actions must provoke divine auction before things can begin to function well for you. Elijah spoke and the first two groups of arresters were roasted, the third group surrendered. A man that carries God’s grace cannot suffer disgrace.

According to the passage, Elijah knew his identity; he was a man/child of God. You must submit to Jesus before the arresters will submit to you. As a child of God, you must know certain facts about your identity.

  1. Being a child of God makes you a voice, not an echo. Therefore, speak the word and results will follow. A closed mouth is a closed destiny. Elijah was a voice, not an echo. He spoke and the arresters were arrested. Proverbs 18:21, Proverbs 6:2. It means your words can create your world. Job 22:28.
  2. As a child of God, you have divine backing. In other words, your declaration will provoke divine endorsement. Elijah spoke and God endorsed his declarations. Matthew 18:18.
  3. As a child of God, you are divinely laminated. The enemies could not touch Elijah because he was divinely laminated. In Daniel 3, fire couldn’t burn Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego because they were divinely laminated. Isaiah 54:17.
  4. Being a child of God doesn’t mean the arresters will not strike, they will certainly strike but God will give you victory over them. God granted Elijah victory over all his arresters. Isaiah 54:15. As a child of God, make sure you don’t remain a prayer warrior but move forward to become a prayer conqueror. Elijah became a conqueror after he made a declaration “If I be a man of God, let fire come down”.
  5. As a child of God, you have access to divine weapons. One of them is fire. 2 kings 1:9-13, 1 kings 18:37-40.

God has several ways of dealing with the arresters……

  1. He can have mercy on them if they repent. God spared the 3rd group of arresters because they surrendered.
  2. God can arrest your arresters and make them bow to you. Joseph’s brothers later bowed to him. Genesis 43:26.
  3. God can make the arresters work for you or decorate you. Esther 6&7.
  4. God can make the arresters kill one another. 2 Chronicles 20:23&24.
  5. God can prepare a table for you in the presence of your arresters.
  6. God can cause your arresters to make costly mistakes that will lead to their downfall.
