Pastor J.T. Kalejaiye - Beware Of Distractions
TOPIC: BEWARE OF DISTRACTIONS
TEXT: 2 KINGS 2:1-10
PREACHER: PASTOR J.T. KALEJAIYE
This world
is full of attractions and distractions. Unfortunately, most of the worldly
distractions come in attractive packages.
The world
itself is a distraction – 2 John 2:15.
NOTE:
Association can determine Destination.
Distraction
is an act of drawing someone’s attention away from something; it is an obstacle
to attention. Distraction is a stumbling block; it is something immaterial that
interferes with one’s actions and progress. Distraction can come in any form,
therefore, beware of Distractions.
The bible
passage tells us about how Elisha reacted to distractions. According to the
passage, Elijah and Elisha started the journey to destiny from Gilgal.
·
They left Gilgal to Bethel: In Bethel, there was
a distraction; the sons of the prophets tried to distract Elisha but he ignored
them.
·
The two Generals (Elijah and Elisha) let Bethel
for Jericho: In Jericho, there was a distraction; the sons of the prophets
tried to distract Elisha but he ignored them.
·
From Jericho, Elijah and Elisha crossed the
Jordan River to Jordan: 50 men of the sons of the prophets stood to view afar
off.
NOTE: At every level, there is a devil.
When Elisha
got to the Jordan, the door of opportunity opened for him.
2 Kings 2:9
– Elisha asked for a (HARD THING/DOUBLE PORTION) and he got it.
It would
have been impossible for Elisha to make it to the Jordan if he had given-in to
distractions.
LESSONS TO TAKE HOME:
1.
You need a Leader as a Ladder: You need someone
in order to get somewhere in life. You need a mentor. The company you keep will
determine what accompanies you. Elisha followed Elijah; be a follower and not a
fan (spectator). If you’re not reigning, you’re expected to be in training. You
have no right to be in Authority if you have not been under Authority. Who is
your Elijah?
2.
Elisha was unstoppable: Elijah (his master), the sons of the prophets
that were in both Bethel and Jericho wanted Elisha to stop but he refused and
never compromised.
3.
You must reject the Devil’s offer in order to go
far in life: Elisha ignored distractions; he was focused. If you stand for
nothing, you fall for anything – Mark 10:46-52, Genesis 39:7&8.
4.
Quitters never win; Winners never quit: If
Elisha had listened to the sons of the prophets; he would have lost the
opportunity of receiving double portion. He would have remained in the class of
the rest rather than the class of the best.
5.
It is the completion of a task that attracts
rewards: Elisha did not get double portion until he got to Jordan – a place of
rewards.
NOTE: If you don’t arise, you cannot
arrive.
