Pastor J.T. Kalejaiye - Diversion
TOPIC: DIVERSION
PREACHER: PASTOR J.T. KALEJAIYE
To divert is
to send on a course or in a direction different from the planned or intended
one. Money, blessings, portions or promotions can be diverted.
In the
Bible, some people were victims of diversion; some people’s blessings narrowly
escaped diversion; some people became victims of diversion but they later
recovered/regained their blessings; some people were beneficiaries of
diversion.
1.
In Genesis 27, Esau was a victim of diversion;
Isaac, his father desired to bless him. Multiple blessings were waiting for
Esau to possess; unfortunately, Esau mortgaged his No. 1 position; he sold his
birthright to Jacob, his twin brother because of food. Due to the exchange of
his birthright for food, Esau’s blessings were diverted to Jacob. A loss to
Esau became a gain to Jacob. The
following personalities played active roles in the diversion of Esau’s
blessings;
·
Esau himself: He was the architect of his
misfortune. He exchanged his birthright because of food – Genesis 25:32.
·
Rebekah his mother: she heard when Isaac
promised to bless Esau; she quickly arranged how to divert Esau’s blessings to
Jacob and she succeeded. NB: Not all mothers are friendly.
·
Jacob: He yielded to Rebekah’s suggestion
despite his initial resistance.
·
Isaac his father: He pronounced concentrated
blessings on Jacob.
2. Some
people’s blessings narrowly escaped diversion. In 1 Samuel 16:1-13, David had a
destiny; he was to be a king. Samuel thought that Eliab, David’s brother was
the one God sent him to anoint, Samuel wanted to anoint Eliab but God
intervened. David would have missed it if Eliab had been anointed.
3. Some
people were victims of diversion but later regained their portion. An example
is Rachael who was to be Jacob’s wife after seven years of service but Jacob
was given Leah to marry – Rachael’s elder sister because their custom forbade
the younger getting married before the elder. In Genesis 29:23-28, Rachael
recovered her portion after Jacob served another seven years.
